COUNCIL MESSAGE

Knights of Columbus Council 539 collects donations for people with intellectual disabilities through Tootsie Roll drives at their local parishes. At a recent drive Brother Knight Michael Moubarek shared the following message of the importance of this charitable work.

“The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a radical invitation to move beyond our own self-centered worldview.  Jesus announced that we are all children of God and we need to do our part to protect and liberate the most vulnerable children of God. In doing this, it is also important to remember that some of God’s most vulnerable children are people with intellectual disabilities. Today, people with intellectual disabilities are less likely to be brought into this world, less likely to be included in their communities, less likely to have work, and more likely to live in poverty. I have seen some of these difficulties first-hand through the life of my younger brother Joseph who has Down Syndrome. What a gift he is! Jesus teaches us, “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me. If we truly believe that people with intellectual disabilities are God’s children, how would we behave differently?

Supporting and assisting people with intellectual disabilities have been an ongoing program supported by the Knights of Columbus for many years. After Mass today our Knights will be collecting donations for people with intellectual disabilities. Come meet our Knights on your way out and enjoy some Tootsie Rolls whether you can give or not. Also stop by if you are interested in joining the Knights. All monies collected will directly support programs for people with intellectual disabilities. Please give generously. We thank you in advance. God Bless you.”

COMMUNITY SERVICE

IMG_0183.jpg

For the Knights of Columbus, whose first principle is charity, finding ways to help those in need in their communities is a mission its members embrace.

Through their good works, whether it be bringing food to the hungry, warm coats to the cold, wheelchairs to those who can't walk, or any of the many programs conducted to help those in need, the Knights of Columbus practices a charity that evangelizes.

Knights of Columbus Council 539 Denver has helped those in need for over 100 years, and through its associated church parishes, legacy organizations (Mullen, Mount St Vincent's Homes) and the community at large, acts to help those in need and live our faith through Jesus.

Join us either as a Knight or a charitable organization in our community service mission to help us fulfill our first principle of charity.   Community service opportunities can be found on our calendar and Facebook page.  Contact us if you are interested in joining or getting involved.
